EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler to Join PRRO Circuit

Will Be Second Race on the 2015-2016 PRRO Series

The EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler - the city's premier fall road race - will become part of the 2015-2016 PRRO Championship Circuit next fall. Last fall's Pittsburgh 10 Miler was the second running of the event, which included world-class competition as well as runners from 29 states. Last year's winners were Leonard Korir of Kenya and American Sara Hall. The 2015 race will be held during the first two weeks of November; the exact date to be decided later in the year based on the home schedule of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"We're thrilled to join the PRRO Circuit, and our premier fall event, EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler, will feature top international and American runners again this year," said Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. (P3R) CEO Patrice Matamoros.

"We expect the competition to be more intense as athletes strive to qualify for the circuit purse at the 2015-2016 PRRO Championship. The intensity is great for fans! We are dedicated to initiatives that increase exposure and racing opportunities for emerging American professional runners.

"In addition, we are extremely supportive of the PRRO circuit's policy of mandatory drug testing at all circuit events. We are committed to a drug-free sport."

The PRRO Circuit offers world-class competition in events shorter than the marathon distance, with over $400,000 in prize money. The circuit has shown its commitment to a drug-free sport by funding mandatory drug testing for elite athletes at all PRRO Circuit events. The testing is carried out by the United States Anti-Doping Agency. Approximately 50 tests were conducted at PRRO Circuit events during the 2013-2014 season, including pre-competition testing.

The addition of the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler will bring the total number of races to six on the 2015-2016 PRRO Circuit, including the Boilermaker 15K in Utica, New York; the World's Best 10K in San Juan, Puerto Rico; the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile in Washington, DC; the Lilac Bloomsday Run 12K in Spokane, Washington; and the AJC Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta, Georgia.

"We're excited to add the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler to next year's Circuit," said PRRO President Don Kardong. "This will give top runners another great racing opportunity as well as the chance to qualify for the PRRO Circuit Championship at the end of the season."

The next race on the 2014-2015 PRRO Circuit is the World's Best 10K on March 1.
